Vision Boarding Your Fabulous Future

Creating a vision board is a wonderful way to bring your goals and dreams to life.  Whether you make yours in quiet reflection on your own or with a group of friends over a glass of wine, now is the time to add the extra dimension and focus to attracting what you want.

1.  Decide when you’ll create your vision board and, if you’re doing it with friends, send out the invites, with a list of what they’ll need to bring (see below).
2.  Set the mood with music, candles and fragrances that you love.  Ideally, you’ll be in a room with plenty of natural light, or if you’re creating at night, with the right ambience for your creative juices to flow.

3.  Step one is to focus on what you want.  Allow thoughts of your ideal life, what you want to do, have and be flow through your mind and when you’re ready, flip through magazines, brochures, cataologues and the internet selecting images that look and feel right for you.  Tear these images out, ready to be carefully cut out later.

4.  Once you have collected all the images that resonate with you, reflect on and create some affirmations, poems or meaningful words that you’ll be able to say to yourself whilst enjoying looking at your vision board each day for example;  ”I love being in a relationship with a partner who adores me”  “I enjoy all the success and rewards that my new job brings”  “I relish the time I have to create balance in my life” “I delight in my healthy and happy body”.  Using coloured paper, write or type these out, or cut out words from magazines to add to your collage.

5.  Once you have your words and pictures together, cut them out and arrange them on your canvas / cardboard / cork board so that they are compelling for you.  Adding additional touches such as ribbons, paint, tickets etc can also be a special part of the finishing touches.

6.  Hang your vision board somewhere where you will see it every day and spend time focussing on it with intent and most importantly, enjoying all the positive good feelings that you experience when visualising your dream life.

Most importantly, Enjoy!

What You’ll Need to Create Your Vision Board

You’ll need the following supplies to hand when you’re creating your vision board.

A Canvas or Cork Board
Magazines / Catalogues / Travel Brochures (wherever pictures of what you want appear!)
Scissors
Glue
Paint
Paintbrushes
Coloured Paper
Music to set the creative mood!

Enjoy ;-)

5 Steps to Action

5 Steps to Action

“Just do it” say the marketeers at Nike.

“Do what?” you ask.  Good question.

Many of our business, NLP and retreat clients come to us asking exactly the same thing; “What should I do”?

Defining what you want in life, in your career and in your relationships is a key first step on the journey to success - whatever that means for you (and it is about you, after all!).  Knowing what you want opens up a world of possibilities; not of what you should do, but what you could do - the options are endless.  The key is translating the could do into a will do and then, you guessed, it, just doing it!

So, pick an area of your life where you’ve been wondering what you “should” do.  Grab a piece of paper or your journal and a pen.

1.  Write your goal, in the centre of the page in positive terms, for example; instead of writing ”I want to lose 10 pounds” which focuses on loss, and is perceived by the unconscious as being negatively framed, you might write “I want to weigh XYZ (insert your goal weight)” - you’re focussing on the positive, which is always a good thing, isn’t it?

2.  Ask yourself the question:  “What will this get for me or enable me to do?”.  Write your answers above your goal, from the top of the page downwards.  As you write each response, keep asking yourself “What else, what else, what else?”.  By now, you’ll have a list of wonderful motivating outcomes that acheiving this goal will get for you or enable you to have.  For example; I’ll be healthier, be able to fit into a fabulous new outfit, I’ll have more energy.

3.  Read over your list of the outcomes that acheiving your goal will bring and visualise yourself having acheived this goal; see yourself healthier, wearing that great outfit and full of beans; see what you’ll see, feel what you’ll feel and hear what you’ll hear when you’ve reached your goal.

4.  Now, underneath your goal, at the bottom of the page, write the responses to the following questions ”What could I do to achieve this goal”?  “What else”?  “What else”? ”What else”? and so on , until you have generated a whole list of options, a list of ways in which you can acheive your goal.  Ask yourself “Is there anyone who has done this before, and what did they do?”  Again, write down your responses.

5.  Select the 3 things (or more!) that you will do.  Circle them, add a date beside them and commit to taking that next step.  Focus all the while on the outcomes you’ve identified for yourself at the top of the page.  Use these to keep you motivated towards achieving your goal.  Because you will.

We really love hearing about your achievements and successes!  Email lara@somersault-consulting.com so we can share them with others.

Thanks Giving with Positive Thinking

You know that one of the best ways to start your day in a positive way is to express gratitude for all that is fabulous in your life.  As the American holiday of Thanksgiving approaches, why not get a group of friends or family together to celebrate and share all that you are thankful for?

Take the time to recognise what it is about your life and about those who are in your life that delights you.  You may like to keep a gratitude journal or simply get out of bed each day saying “thank you” to yourself with each step you take.

Whether it’s a smile from a loved one (or a stranger!), the smell of your morning coffee or the wagging of your Springer’s tail, there are many things to be grateful for.  Let us know what puts a spring in your step by emailing lara@somersault-consulting.com and we’ll publish your top 10 in the next issue of our newsletter.

Enjoy ;-)

Design Your Fabulous Love Life

The cherry blossoms are out at Cherry Trees Farm - could it be that Spring has sprung?

Our outdoor tableDaffodils line the borders and all manner of flowers and foliage are beginning to make their delightful appearance as the days get longer.  I admit, I hadn’t realised how much enjoyment I would experience from watching the changes day by day and the pleasure I take in discovering what types of plants are growing all around the garden.  Climbing roses are having a growth spurt and the jasmine and honeysuckle promises to provide a delicious fragrance for summer afternoons on the lawn.  The BBQ eagerly awaits its first outing!

Speaking of BBQs, everyone enjoys fresh, home-grown produce, so at the weekend I made a start on the veggie garden at Cherry Trees Farm.  With the sun shining I joined the many hordes of folks at the local garden centre, enjoying the prospect of a lovely day pottering outdoors communing with nature.

Aided by a wonderfully helpful and knowledgeable chap, I purchased the necessary seeds, compost, seed trays and a 72 cell propogator all in preparation for the afternoon ahead.  At the check-out, a lovely pair of gardening gloves caught my eye, so I added them to my bounty and headed back to the farm (I am becoming more and more like Barbara from The Good Life every day!) for the serious business of planting.

Once home, I read the instructions on each seed packet, cross-referenced them with my Grow Your Own Veg book and realised that there is more to this gardening malarky than meets the eye!

Each seed requires different things; a different type of compost to grow in (PH levels, manure preparation, composting and wetness all seem to count) and need to be planted at different depths.  Then, there’s how far apart (or how close) they like to be - who knew that sweet corn, when it reaches seedling stage, needs to be planted close together so that the male and females are within easy reach of eachother for pollination to occur and for the cobs to grow?

Thinking about corn led me to thinking about our Design Your Young couple in a new houseFabulous Love Life weekend retreat - you’ve got to get out there and be in environments where you can get close enough to members of the opposite sex to meet someone - sitting at home in the hope that the thai or pizza take-away delivery man/woman will be the love of your life really does reduce your chances of happily ever after with Mr or Ms Right.

Like the seedlings, everyone is unique - we all need different levels of space, light and nourishment (in all its forms) to grow.  One of the first steps in finding the person for you is being really clear about who you are and what you really want in life.

Join us on the weekend of 17th - 19th April to spend quality time discovering your unique relationship needs, wants and values are and learn ways in which you can meet the partner who is just right for you!

Once I carefully ensured that each group of seedlings had their own unique planting requirements met, I labelled them “Sweet Corn”, “Broccoli”, “Lettuce” and so on.  And in the same way that in life, you don’t plant tomato seeds expecting leeks to grow, being really clear about what you want and the ways in which you can go out and get it means that you’ll always reap what you sow.

Happy Springtime xx

  Clear the Clutter!

Okay, are you ready?  Here is your mission for this week.

Clear the clutter!  That’s right - take time to go through your wardrobe/books/cupboards/bathroom cabinet/linen press/that special hiding place under the bed and take one of three actions with the items you find:

1.  Bin it (only if someone you know or the local charity shop can’t use it) Note: food, past its expiry date, with a fungal growth, must go in the bin or compost heap :-)

2.  Give it away (see above)

3.  Put it back (neatly) after having repaired/cleaned/taken action to ensure it’s in fab condition and you’ll use it again soon.

Remember, with clothing, if you:

a) haven’t worn it for 12 months

b) think you’ll fit into it again once you’ve lost xyz pounds

c) believe that in a few years it’ll be classed as “vintage” so you’d better hang onto it

d) have more than three of the same item - you know, black tops do suit you, but do you REALLY need 8 of them?

e) don’t feel comfortable in it

Then please, please, please take action and give it to a new home!

Tip: grab a friend and take turns at helping eachother to clear the clutter.  Put your favourite music on the stereo/ipod and chill your favourite wine/beer/champers for later in celbration of your newly tidied home.

Next day, feel the pleasure of giving things to others.

For ‘big’ stuff, visit www.freecycle.co.uk where you can offer your unwanted things free to good homes (called ‘gifting’).

Take good care until next time

Blue Trees vs Global Meltdown

Blue Trees and Global Meltdown ! Whatever you do while reading this blog, I want you to promise yourself that at no time will you think of a blue tree… No, I said whatever you do, don’t think of a blue tree – and isn’t it strange how you can sit minding your own business reading this blog, totally oblivious of the tongue in your mouth until someone comes along and mentions it… Oh did I, are you? sorry, I was just twittering along on the keyboard, not consciously thinking of the effect my musings would have on your thoughts and ultimately your behaviour. You see, the thing with the unconscious mind is it can’t process a negative, so if I …. Well you get my gist.. blue trees and all that. Because the unconscious mind can’t process a negative it has to think of the negative before it can focus on the not thinking of it.. so, if you are told not to focus on a blue tree, the unconscious mind, however fleetingly, has to think of a blue tree before it can think of not thinking of a blue tree. And so it is with our focus … We get exactly what we focus on. We attract exactly what we are focusing on. How many times have you driven out of the from the car showroom in that special limited edition car, certain that this time, in this colour, with this spec, no one else can possibly have one like yours… only to see an identical model at the traffic lights around the corner? Or how many times have you been to that huge concert venue or sports stadium only to bump in to someone from across the street or from the office? The law of attraction dictates that the universe will draw us to exactly what we are focused on. There have always been hundreds of those cars driving around on your journey to work; you just haven’t been focusing on them. In all probability, thousands of people have pushed past you or crossed your path at the O2 before you notice your neighbour. The thing is, you don’t recognise anyone until you see your neighbour, so consciously you believe that the first people you have seen are your neighbours or the guy from the next office.

You see what I mean, we see, or we get, exactly what we are focusing on.

You can’t help but notice that in recent weeks and months the media have been focusing almost entirely on the doom and gloom of global recession, and guess what, the more we talk about it, the more we read about it, the more likely it seems that we are hurtling ever quicker in to a global economic melt down!! Is there any surprise? In today’s 24 hour news society, the media is immensely powerful in creating and accelerating global outcomes. Simply by generating a sequence of headlines, discussions, debates and column inches then so we begin to create that outcome. The media Cause the circumstances that we choose to Effect our thinking.

Stop and think about it, in reality how different are you to the person you were 12 months ago? And yet how differently do you feel about your current or short-term future today, compared to 12 months ago? Significantly and sadly, when I’ve asked people that question in recent days the majority of replies I get are very much in the negative. Without realising why, the majority of people I talk to today are feeling much less confident about their future today than they were 12 months ago. Why? Because they are choosing to allow the media to place them at effect. The media is causing their effect!!

What if you were one of those savvy people who could choose to Create your own outcomes?

What if you were one of those people who could recognise just how many opportunities remaining in abundance all around you?

What if you chose to always be at cause for your life and your outcomes? While you and others are panicking today, the savvy are Creating their Fabulous Future. We all choose the behaviours we adopt. We all choose how to Internally Represent the external events going on around us and as a consequence we all choose whether to fold or play. We choose whether to Cause our Fabulous Future or to allow others such as media headlines to effect our lives and outcomes.

Just a thought….. Nigel
